Welcome to the Swedish Society of Civil and Structural Engineers, SVR!

 

SVR, the Swedish Society of Civil and Structural Engineers, was founded in 1934. SVR is an unpolitical, non-profit organisation for the building industry. SVR enables the building industry to channel their views on building in Sweden.

 

SVR has approx. 3500 members, which is about 25% of all civil engineers examined in Sweden.

 

The SVR members are involved in every step of the building process, from initial idea, through projecting and production to management of buildings, bridges and other constructional works or spatial planning and environmental control. SVR members are either publicly employed by the government or the local community or employed by privately owned companies.

 

SVR's objectives are

 

  •  to promote the art of constructional work and the development of the society 
  •  to improve the position of the engineers in society 
  •  to contribute to the members' professional development 
  •  to promote kinship for the members through various activities

 

 

SVR takes an active part in attracting highly motivated students and raising the quality of the education at the Swedish institutes of technology. There are one SVR representants at the four universities. These are SVR's ambassadors and young face towards the students. They arrange SVR activities during the year and they are represented in the border of SVR.

 

SVR's focus is to promote the attractiveness of the building trade by bringing out good examples of civil engineering and to attract skilled professionals to the industry using the slogan "Civil engineer – a profession to be proud of ". During this year SVR are working together with other organisations in a recruiting project among young people, 15 - 25 years old. The issue is to convince young people that the building trade give them a lot of opportunities for the future.

 

To improve the situation for female civil engineers the net work of SVR female members arranges meetings and seminars.

 

To promote the SVR members' competitiveness on the market, and to secure the future needs of managers in the building and real estate trades, SVR offers a training program, arranges seminars and lectures on career development and trade subjects, and hosts an annual two-day conference. Next years' conference will be held in Stockholm 10-11 of October.
